The term so far...Written by Sirita Kaur
What a busy, fun start to the term we have had!
During the first week, we had a dentist in to talk to us about looking after our teeth. We practised on some fake teeth and used floss too! We have since learnt that crocodiles lose their teeth up to 40 times during their lifetime - that is a LOT of teeth!
Bristol Zoo visited on 27th Feb for our WOW day, bringing snakes and insects to show the class. The children were really interested in them, looking at patterns and textures, asking questions and were very responsible when holding them.
Then it was World Book Day on 2nd March - what a lot of brilliant costumes - thank you for all the effort you made! We had an author visiting us, CJ Busby, who talked to us about her life and work.
Last week, we learnt about Fairtrade and baked some very scrumptious banana and chocolate muffins, using Fairtrade ingredients.
Pictures to follow soon!
Dem bones dem bones dem dry bonesWritten by Sirita Kaur
During our last topic we worked on Janet & Allan Ahlberg's book 'Funnybones', making a story map and writing wonderful sentences about where the skeletons visited. We painted skeleton pictures using cotton buds, found 'bones' hidden around the garden, labelled body parts and sang Dry Bones. At Orchard School we found lots of different sticks to make a big skeleton on the grass - many children got involved in working out where each stick 'bone' should be positioned.
We have lots of pictures to show you - do have a look through the blue Learning Diaries if you wish.
A 'wheelie' fun day!Written by Sirita Kaur
Wow what a finale for our topic! So many bikes and scooters arrived with Cherry class on Friday 10th February, ready for lots of fun on the big playground. Every child had a great time, whizzing around with such freedom and speed, not to mention lots of fantastic control! Skills were practised and honed going through the slalom course, with mega smiles on all faces! A great day all round, thank you for bringing the bikes and scooters in.
Apologies for lack of pictures - many wonderful shots were taken but we are having a technical glitch in getting them on here...
Fantastic fruit smoothie Friday!Written by Sirita Kaur
We got into groups of 4 and decided which fruit we would like to go into our smoothie - there was a lot to choose from: mango, pineapple, banana, blueberries, strawberries, apples, blood oranges, pears, lemon - thank you parents for all the extras!
Then we chopped it up and put it into the blender with some milk and a handful of oats. Whizzzzzzzz and WOW... delicious, colourful, healthy smoothie for our snack! Comments from children: 'It was yummy' 'Strawberry is my favourite' 'Can we make some more?'
The chicks are here!Written by Sirita Kaur
This morning Miss McKean & Mrs McKewan were greeted by the wonderful sound of 'cheep cheep' as they began the school day in Cherry class...There will be pictures coming soon but in the meantime, do come in to class to have a look at our newest members of reception. They are adorable!
More eggciting news!Written by Sirita Kaur
Last Thursday, Farmer Nick came back to check whether the eggs have an air sac. He used a small torch to shine in to each egg and... we are pleased to announce that each of the 12 eggs has a healthy looking air sac which means that potentially we will have 12 chicks hatching...Next week is hatching time...watch this space!
Making bread!Written by Sirita Kaur
Last week we were working on the story of the Little Red Hen so we made our very own bread, just like she did! We all mixed the dough, then left it to rise while we went to Orchard School. Afterwards, when the dough had grown a lot, we each had our own piece to knead and shape into our very own roll. Here are the baked rolls - they were DELICIOUS!!!
