Year 3 - Beech and Cedar

Welcome to Year 3!

This term, our topic is From Tealeaf to Teapot and we will be learning all about where food is grown around the world with a particular emphasis on Fairtrade and how it benefits the farmers and producers. In October, we will celebrate Black History Month and celebrating the people who have made a difference to our world. We will also look at India as our country including an amazing Arts Week where we will create art connected with India!

We have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays this term so please ensure the full PE kit is in on both of those days.

- Spellings
- Spelling words will come home on Friday with the homework and a spelling test will take place the following Friday.
  
  Children will also practise these spellings throughout the week in school. Click here to see a weekly list of our Term 1 Spellings
  
  There is also a Y3/4 statutory spellings list for children to work on.
- PE and Forest School
- Y3 will have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays this term.
  
  Please ensure your child has their full PE kit, including a change of shoes, in school with them on those days.
- Reading
- Children have a reading record and school reading book that they bring home with them.
  
  It would be fantastic if children have the opportunity to read with an adult at least three times a week at home even if they are fluent readers. Fluent readers still need support with comprehension, so ask lots of questions. Please ask for a sheet with comprehension questions and activity ideas if you are unsure of how to support this.
  
  Please remind children to bring in their reading record.
- Homework
- Homework is given out each Friday and due back the following Wednesday. It is available in paper copies from the classroom and electronically on Google Classroom too.
- Times tables
- It would be fantastic if children had the opportunity to practise their mental maths skills such as mental adding and subtracting and number bonds. Numbots can be used (using their TTRS logins) and another great free website is hit the button: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button.
